Where's the sci-fi in "Snake Girl"?

...I really couldn't find any. Does anyone have any ideas?

  1. I couldn't find any, either. Maybe we were supposed to assume that she could talk to the snake?

  2. Upon closer reading, there may be an element of fantasy with regard to the snake; in Paradise Lost, which is heavily referenced and paralleled in this story, the serpent precipitates the fall of man; whereas in Snake Girl, the snake (appropriately named Lucifer) somewhat facilitates the breakdown of the protagonists' relationship.
