Hellfire
Hellfire at twighlight was a very fun and captivating story. It was my favorite of this book. It had an interesting mix of futuristic cyborgs, 18th century england, and roman mythology. With an interesting mix of sexual tension maybe? That was kind of an interesting touch but i guess you have to have that if you are talking about roman mythology. I kind of wish they had a little bit more cyborg in the story than they did. It was a fun asect of the story and I wish they had more since this is a true scify. I think the premise of the story was more scify than the actual aspects in it. Very enjoyable.

I loved part on Roman mythology but wanted a little more info on the cyborgs too.
ReplyDeleteI think the story went way past just sexual tension, though. Was there not an orgy in the cave or did i misread that? That part was just weird.
I think there was an orgy, but thankfully the protagonist (and we, the readers) were not exposed to it in detail. It reminded of Eyes Wide Shut. Creepy!
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I thought it was interesting how this story viewed faith and history. If the cyborgs were presumably collecting documents to preserve some aspect of human history, wouldn't it be important to try and collect the fake document as well?
After all, what's more representative of humanity, a collection of historical facts, or a forging or re-imagining of such facts driven by a human yearning such as desire and/or faith?
Overall, a pretty neat little tale.
yeah more cyborgs would have been great. Last week we had dogs in some stories. This week we have sex scenes.
ReplyDeleteThis story along with Skysailor's Tale don't seem to be science fiction to me. They both are filled with historical context and really don't represent what I picture the science fiction genre as.
The sex fit right in as it was dealing with classical mythology. It could have been a lot worse!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else taken the Greek and Roman mythology class offered here by Summers? I took it my first semester here, and it is one of my favorite classes.
I can't remember, did the story explain why the buyer wanted the fake copy? I don't think it did.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes i guess I did forget the cave orgy, I guess because the protagonist was spared(although I think he kind of wanted that chick) by his chocolatey drunken state.
And they never said exactly what he did while drunk? maybe thats just up to our imagination?
Ya I took the greek and roman class last year. It was definately on of my favorite classes. But there was some strange sex stuff in that class too.
ReplyDeleteI may be mistaken John, but I think the company wanted Lewis to retrieve it because the buyer wouldn't know whether it was fake or not.
ReplyDeleteYa I do remember something about that. Think your right
