The story also reminded me of HBO's True Blood. Sookie Stackhouse, a telepath, has a difficult time being in crowds because she can hear each individual thought. I can imagine how hard it would be to find silence and solitude living in a world like that.
However, there was one thing I would have liked further explained (or maybe I just missed it?), and that was the fact that some humans were "blanks." What makes their brainwaves so different? Maybe they are a different species of people altogether?
I agree about not prefering to hear what people thought. Sure it would be cool to know exactly what everyone was thinking at first, but like you said once you begin to hear people's thoughts on you the fun would wear off. My initial thought about the "blanks" was that those people weren't human, just like in True Blood were Sookie cant hear the vampire's thoughts. Something is different about the "blanks" and that is what popped into my head
ReplyDeleteWait, I thought blanks were the humans whose ancestors had not fused/melded with the aliens and were unable to have a broad enough consciousness to register on their scans.
ReplyDeleteWell, that is what I was led to believe as well, but I couldn't remember if it was explicitly said. That sounds good enough to me.
ReplyDeleteIf i was a telepath, i'd get pissed off with it really fast I imagine. I feel like i'd end up letting on that I could read minds ultimately also just from it being so irritating. Hell, i'd probably end up checking myself into an asylum...then again, i wonder if that would just make me crazier.
ReplyDeleteOn an unrelated note, Sookie is hot.
